A message from Tom Benz, Alabama Clergy Council

It is my opinion that our rights come from God. Certainly the family is sovereign.  But, the purpose and duty of government is to protect our God-given rights.  When, in the course of human events, the sin of fallen man takes that man to the place that he is breaching the sovereign rights of his wife, i.e., to starve her to death, particularly after he has defaulted on the marriage covenant to the extent of establishing a second wife and family, I believe that it is the right and the duty of government to step in to protect the sacred life of the disabled wife.  I see this in the same light as protecting a woman from a husband who is obviously murdering her.

The problem inherent in issues such as these is where do we draw the line - at which point are the breaches of the wife's inalienable rights egregious enough that government must do its job of protecting those rights. Our government has pushed the line too far and has eroded the sovereignty of the family in education, child abuse, etc. In the Schiavo case, the wife is being intentional starved to death.  I believe this is clearly the duty of government - Jeb Bush and George Bush included. In fact, I believe that they must answer to God for their complicity in the impending death of Mrs. Schiavo.

Good Friday's Dilema

To the Honorable Governor Jeb Bush

My Dear Brother in the Lord,

I cannot but help feel sympathy for the situation that you are in.  I know that you have had a tough decision set before you.  I would like to call to your remembrance as a Christian brother on this Good Friday, that today commemorates that day 2001 years ago, when our Lord and Savior was condemned to death by the Supreme Court of the Hebrew Republic. We know from history and the scriptures themselves that the court did not have the power to carry out the sentence of Death because they were a conquered people by the Romans.   But one man had the earthly authority to deliver Jesus, or to join in his condemnation.  We are told that he resisted. He pleaded with the courts and the masses.  He appealed to King Herod to intervene.  But ultimately he was the man who had to make the decision.  My dear brother, I urge you not to give in to the voice of murderers. This is not a time to wash your hands and do nothing.  God has put you into your position for such a time as this.  No man of authority wants the legacy of Pilate.  Exercise your power of interposition, and stop the murder of this innocent woman. The prayers of multitudes are with you.  Sincerely your brother in Christ,

Questions:

1)  Why isn't a criminal investigation being opened by the Sheriff of Pinellas County, or the State Attorney General of Florida into the allegations by the hospice nurse, Carla Iyer, of Michael Schiavo's alleged attempt to murder Terri by insulin injection allegations which you are aware of !!   Why aren't you and the Florida Attorney General acting on this ? !

2)  Why hasn't Michael Schiavo been charged with criminal adultery under Florida's state misdemeanor adultery law, with the prima facie evidence of his co-habitation with another woman, and fathering two children by this immoral, 10-year relationship ?

3)  Why are not the two points above:  1) and 2), sufficient cause to remove Michael Schiavo as the "legal guardian" of Terri, and place Terri under the protective custody of the state ?  Doesn't the adultery charge alone indicate an obvious "conflict of interest" for Michael Schiavo ?  And Terri is being sentenced to death on the hearsay evidence of one man, this criminal adulterer, who it is alleged also attempted to kill Terri with an insulin injection ??

      This whole matter is part of your life's legacy, Jeb Bush:  don't allow your legacy to be that of Pontius Pilate (Matthew 27:24).
